As thoughts of donning a two-piece haunt me like a nightmare, I quickly think to myself that maybe it's time to stop fat-kidding all over town and to get serious about toning my trouble spots. Right when I was thinking that maybe I'll head back to the gym, I received a lovely delivery in my inbox of personal trainer <a href="http://www.mikechangfitness.com/" target="_blank"><b>Mike Chang</b></a>'s (pictured below) <a href="http://sixpackshortcuts.com/desktop/ihfl" target="_blank"><b>Insane Home Fat Loss Workout</b></a>. I'll admit, I tend to think that all of these Youtube or "As Seen On TV" workouts are gimmicks, but man was I wrong about this one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F9z9_E2JK6s/VW-HyqK70NI/AAAAAAAABy0/12fsSA7FyJ4/s1600/Personal%2BTrainer%2BMike%2BChang.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Personal Trainer Mike Chang" border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F9z9_E2JK6s/VW-HyqK70NI/AAAAAAAABy0/12fsSA7FyJ4/s400/Personal%2BTrainer%2BMike%2BChang.jpg" title="Personal Trainer Mike Chang" width="195" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<i>Here's the real deal</i>. As an entrepreneur, I work -- a lot. I rarely have time to do the normal things on a day to day basis, and on top of that try to stay fit and active. My meals are delivered via <a href="https://www.homechef.com/" target="_blank"><b>Home Chef</b></a> now because my grocery shopping and cooking time is limited, and the thought of actually packing up a bag, getting in my car, going to the gym, etc. just seems like more trouble than it is worth. BUT -- seeing as how I'm in the <i>oh-so-glamorous</i> fashion industry, working out and watching what I eat is an unfortunate must.<br />
<br />
So I pop in Mike Chang's Insane Home Fat Loss Workout which can be viewed from your smart phone, iPad or other smart device. (I'm usually watching from my iPad.) Seemed pretty simple enough. It's 9 days of varied workouts targeting your core, legs, back, arms, and more. The workouts average at 20 minutes a piece and the routine varies in a circuit-training type system to alleviate boredom. Even after all of this, I still wasn't a believer. <u><b>Hasn't it been drilled into our heads during our lifetime that we have to put in HOURS at the gym to truly see drastic results?</b></u> Well Mike Chang will prove it all wrong. (Apologizing in advance for photos in the bathroom but you get the idea.)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dXZtftu55CE/VW-Jsh30SXI/AAAAAAAABzY/yyb9BxDCNqE/s1600/Insane%2BHome%2BFat%2BLoss%2BWorkout%2B2%2BWeeks2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Mike Change Insane Home Fat Loss Workout" border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dXZtftu55CE/VW-Jsh30SXI/AAAAAAAABzY/yyb9BxDCNqE/s400/Insane%2BHome%2BFat%2BLoss%2BWorkout%2B2%2BWeeks2.jpg" title="Mike Change Insane Home Fat Loss Workout" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Riv-JFZIFSU/VW-Jsk3sJTI/AAAAAAAABy8/ne2wC-Tkk6s/s1600/Insane%2BHome%2BFat%2BLoss%2BWorkout%2B2%2BWeeks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Mike Change Insane Home Fat Loss Workout" border="0" height="256" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Riv-JFZIFSU/VW-Jsk3sJTI/AAAAAAAABy8/ne2wC-Tkk6s/s400/Insane%2BHome%2BFat%2BLoss%2BWorkout%2B2%2BWeeks.jpg" title="Mike Change Insane Home Fat Loss Workout" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Two Weeks</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Above are my two weeks results. A few key things to note. I did not change my diet much. As I said before, I have a hectic schedule so eating out is on the menu for the majority of the time. I do however, drink a lot of water constantly throughout the day. As you can see -- a slimmer mid section and definitely a slimmer butt. The muffin top around the waist was definitely disappearing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rYYZGDRu4lg/VW-Js5oEbNI/AAAAAAAABzM/BS-_r84ERxE/s1600/Insane%2BHome%2BFat%2BLoss%2BWorkout%2B4%2BWeeks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Mike Change Insane Home Fat Loss Workout" border="0" height="190" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rYYZGDRu4lg/VW-Js5oEbNI/AAAAAAAABzM/BS-_r84ERxE/s400/Insane%2BHome%2BFat%2BLoss%2BWorkout%2B4%2BWeeks.jpg" title="Mike Change Insane Home Fat Loss Workout" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sd46wWnoApw/VW-JtNnP2BI/AAAAAAAABzQ/zTZ94t5XFe4/s1600/Insane%2BHome%2BFat%2BLoss%2BWorkout%2B4Weeks2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Mike Change Insane Home Fat Loss Workout" border="0" height="223" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sd46wWnoApw/VW-JtNnP2BI/AAAAAAAABzQ/zTZ94t5XFe4/s400/Insane%2BHome%2BFat%2BLoss%2BWorkout%2B4Weeks2.jpg" title="Mike Change Insane Home Fat Loss Workout" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">4 Weeks</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I decided to restart the workouts again after the 9-days were up and here are my 4-week results above. The stomach became more toned and instead of my butt actually slimming down more, I noticed that it was definitely more rounded and raised. I'm still getting used to this because my pants fit differently but I've had a TON of compliments on how flat my stomach looks from people who see me on a day-to-day basis.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nEtEtYGiECk/VW-Jtc6C0LI/AAAAAAAABzc/SqgdwDQ_IU8/s1600/Insane%2BHome%2BFat%2BLoss%2BWorkout%2BLeah%2BFrazier.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Mike Change Insane Home Fat Loss Workout" border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nEtEtYGiECk/VW-Jtc6C0LI/AAAAAAAABzc/SqgdwDQ_IU8/s400/Insane%2BHome%2BFat%2BLoss%2BWorkout%2BLeah%2BFrazier.jpg" title="Mike Change Insane Home Fat Loss Workout" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And...here's the money shot above. Me really proving that there are some abs under all of that Whataburger and Sugary Sweets I feast on. And the booty is definitely raised!<br />
<br />
So here's the takeaway on the positives of this workout plan. This is the perfect workout for someone who wants to:<br />
<ol>
<li><u><b>Work Out At Home</b></u> - I do all of these exercises in my living room comfortably in a sports bra and shorts.</li>
<li><u><b>No Weights</b></u> - It's low maintenance because no weights are required and all you need is a towel for some of the toning exercises.</li>
<li><u><b>Time Efficient</b></u> - All you have to do is commit an average of 20 minutes per workout. For the girl-on-the-go like myself, I definitely had 20 minutes to give.</li>
</ol>
I'm going to continue this journey and see how sculpted my abs can get, and I'm going to gradually work in eating healthier for even more drastic results. Here are some other people who have seen great results. Teresa Tullos (second pic below) achieved maximum results just after 10 weeks.<br />

I think at times I've struggled with this terminology myself. When I hear of someone "using their divine voice," I think of this supernatural bodily takeover where the Holy Spirit does a complete 100% takeover of your body, mind, and spirit -- takes over your tongue, says what the Lord wants you to say to the listener, and then goes back into hibernation. I know...slightly dramatic, but these are the visions I get in my head. I've always told myself that I'm not necessarily sure that I have a divine voice but once again, God proved me wrong.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2PSNf1tS6DE/VWNKn2hG-4I/AAAAAAAABxc/hNgtj1jMiMk/s1600/divine%2Bvoice.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Divine Voice" border="0" height="291" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2PSNf1tS6DE/VWNKn2hG-4I/AAAAAAAABxc/hNgtj1jMiMk/s400/divine%2Bvoice.jpg" title="Divine Voice" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Several days ago, I ventured out to a low-key coffee shop here in town to conduct an interview for my online magazine. It started off as just another interview -- prepped a little before by reading the bio of the individual, other write-ups she's received, etc. I was ready...or was I?<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dpIt9_Ma8wI/VWNK6CggKgI/AAAAAAAABxk/QXryv6sBxtw/s1600/ascension.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Ascension Coffee Dallas" border="0" height="248" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dpIt9_Ma8wI/VWNK6CggKgI/AAAAAAAABxk/QXryv6sBxtw/s400/ascension.jpg" title="Ascension Coffee Dallas" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I get to the <a href="http://ascensiondallas.com/" target="_blank">coffee shop</a>, chat it up with my favorite server, and order my soy cappuccino. The time was just around 8PM. As she approaches, I'm still under the impression that this will be just another monotonous interview. She sits...a tad nervous...but after a "Hey girl!" here and a "What's up?" there by me, she slinks back in her chair knowing that I'm human just like her. She's now comfortable.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sCQMYMc_z-8/VWNLcCRKAxI/AAAAAAAABxs/sZoWeSQOHgE/s1600/ascension2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Ascension Coffee Dallas" border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sCQMYMc_z-8/VWNLcCRKAxI/AAAAAAAABxs/sZoWeSQOHgE/s400/ascension2.jpg" title="Ascension Coffee Dallas" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
We get through the first set of introductions and I turn my recorder on. It all starts off as super cliche and all of the basic journalist questions. It then begins to rain and we move inside the coffee shop. We started talking about her inspirations for her craft and she begins to reveal some basic insecurities. As a creative artist driven by her passion but financially tied to a job that will "provide," her inner struggle of passion and purpose begin to surface. As an entrepreneur who recently took a deep dive into "crazy-land" to fully pursue my passion, I immediately began to minister...unknowingly.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>~Proverbs 18:21 - The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat of its fruit. ~</b></span></div>
<br />
Out of nowhere, I began to speak to her situation by telling her <a href="http://beautyforeashes.blogspot.com/2014/07/dream-big-what-god-has-for-you-is-just.html" target="_blank">my story</a>, <a href="http://www.leahfrazier.com/about.html" target="_blank">where I came from</a>, how God wants her to use her gifts and how she will never really experience the fullness of what He has for her until she steps off of faith, dives off the cliff into "crazy-land," and has the utmost faith that He will provide. Seeing her eyes well with tears, I turn off the recorder and continued to fill her with all of the things God was telling me to tell her. It was probably one of the most powerful moments I've ever experienced.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kluixn8JECA/VWNMnAWqp0I/AAAAAAAABx0/TENKgUOygDQ/s1600/cliff%2Bdiver.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kluixn8JECA/VWNMnAWqp0I/AAAAAAAABx0/TENKgUOygDQ/s400/cliff%2Bdiver.jpg" width="328" /></a>I sat there for probably an hour with my interview subject ministering to her and she gratefully accepted. She went on to say that she knew our meeting was one bathed in divinity -- that everything I had to say spoke to her situation and was exactly what she needed at that moment. As if awoken from a dream, I re-emerge...only to remember bits of pieces of what was spoken, but alive enough to know that God was there, He spoke, and she was refreshed.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I don't know what the future will hold for this talented artist, but in that moment she was inspired and she felt hope. I now know what it means to speak in my "divine voice." Have you recognized yours? Your divine voice is never for you. It's when God uses you to share his vision with others based on their need. You won't have to think long and hard about what to say, because it will flow like a river. In what ways has your divine voice healed others? Have you truly allowed God to use you? Just some things to think about as you move forward.<br />

<b><u>Overall Assessment:</u> Overall, Scent of Triumph is an enjoyable book despite a few style preferences
and choices made purposefully by the author. Moran created a story that
captivates the reader. However underneath a more skeptical eye, the novel’s
flaws will appear. 3 out of 5 stars to anyone who enjoys dramatic romance and historical fiction. </b></div>

The
plot of <i>Scent of Triumph</i> is engaging within the first few pages, drawing the reader in with the hint of
romance in the midst of war. The events of the story take place during World War
II after the Nazis invaded Poland -- strategically placing this novel under the label of
historical fiction. While not usually the one to read historical fiction -- as it usually
buries the reader beneath facts and dates that they could care less about, this story made us reconsider our stance against the genre. Moran made us
interested in the lives of her characters. She had us rooting for their safety
and for their happiness. Within the first few pages, we were ready to
commit ourselves to the romance and drama of Danielle Bretancourt’s life.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>

The first line alone gave such an air of pretension that we had to put it
down -- only to pick it back up to re-engage in more pretentious tones given off by the narrator. For the reader, this pretension may be derived from the overly dramatized tone
and longer-than-necessary descriptions. This tone evens out as the story goes
on, but the author still tends to over-describe the settings in her stories. <i>Sometimes brevity is best.</i> Some readers appreciate a nice balance between what the writer tells them
and what they are allowed to imagine for themselves. Unfortunately, Moran dissolves the fun, leaving little to the
imagination. <i>However, we understand that this is only a matter of personal taste</i>. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

Another slight but looming issue comes from the main
character. Despite Danielle’s virtues and talents, she seemed
almost <i>too</i> perfect. She is the ideal woman living a charmed life. This is
reinforced by the fact that she never really has to deal with the difficult
situations in her life; instead, something convenient occurs to draw her away
from the difficulty. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is a common
theme with writers. </div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>Whenever the author finds his or herself in a difficult plot line,
he/she writes themselves out of it, rather than riding out the tension and seeing what
comes of it. I think that Danielle would have been a much stronger character
had she been given the chance to grow in these situations.</b></i></span></div>

No really. I <i>love</i> my socks. From my younger days donning Easter socks in lace to my basketball knee-high striped Nike socks -- let's just say I truly adore the many ways I can express myself through this ultimate wardrobe staple.<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">No socks here but you get the point. Roberts Wesleyan College Senior b-ball banquet 2004. Yes, fashion girl in flip-flops...gag. But..I was comfortable. ;-)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<div>
I met the owners of Dallas-based brand <b><a href="https://www.deadsoxy.com/" target="_blank">Dead Soxy</a></b> over coffee at <b><a href="http://ascensiondallas.com/" target="_blank">Ascension</a></b> (<i>of course</i>) following a panel of mine they attended for <b><a href="http://dallas.startupweek.co/" target="_blank">Dallas Start-Up Week</a></b>. After some sips of cappuccino and small talk, I learned that co-owners Jason Simmons and Mike Romine were both in corporate America with Mike being a chiropractor. As an entrepreneur, Jason left his corporate gig to pursue development of the Dead Soxy label full-time. After learning of their story, and being both a fashion editor and fellow entrepreneur...I was all in.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H2z_BWxb8ZI/VR03FndhmZI/AAAAAAAABtg/F3XcYtIHCIU/s1600/Dead%2BSoxy%2BMike%2Band%2BJason.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Dead Soxy Jason Simmons Mike Romine" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H2z_BWxb8ZI/VR03FndhmZI/AAAAAAAABtg/F3XcYtIHCIU/s1600/Dead%2BSoxy%2BMike%2Band%2BJason.png" height="303" title="Dead Soxy Jason Simmons Mike Romine" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After receipt of my Dead Soxy socks "for her", I really wanted to channel what this brand personally meant to me. Mike or Dr. Mike as he is referred to, cleverly came up with the name Dead Soxy <i>and</i> its corresponding hashtag for social media #StaySoxy. So naturally as I thought of socks for women, what would make them sexy? As my brain toyed with the concept and the development of a specialized photo-shoot, I thought, "I wanna have fun. Maybe a Tom Cruise Risky Business-inspired, dance in my socks, girls just wanna have fun type shoot."</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kp3ObMtK94c/VR03ZLLOwCI/AAAAAAAABto/4AobjPNPrSU/s1600/DeadSoxy%2BFinal2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Dead Soxy Leah Frazier" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kp3ObMtK94c/VR03ZLLOwCI/AAAAAAAABto/4AobjPNPrSU/s1600/DeadSoxy%2BFinal2.jpg" height="400" title="Dead Soxy Leah Frazier" width="266" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Well, after I actually got in the studio with my go-to Dallas photographer, <b><a href="http://thomasgarzaphotography.com/" target="_blank">Thomas Garza</a></b>, the whole concept for me changed. As I draped myself in an over-sized men's business shirt, delicately put on undergarments to match the Dead Soxy grey/pink socks, I began to channel my inner sexy. But...going a step further I ditched the Risky Business concept a minute before the first camera click. It occurred to me. The light bulb goes on. </div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Nothing is more sexy to a man, than when his girl wears one of his shirts, sports it <i>au naturale</i>, with no make-up, hair tassled, with no effort. So that's what I did. Baring close to all for the sake of fashion, but keeping it classy, here are some shots of how I #StaySoxy. Be sure to check the detail of the socks -- such as how the upper flipped portion reads "Dead Soxy" and on the back of the socks reads "Her". I LOVE IT!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Inspired by low-relief sculptures, (hence the Italian phrase <i>basso-relievo</i>), the new Warby Parker Basso Collection features an elevated step design that results in a weightier appearance, yet still constructed with the brand's high quality standards. </div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While the process of developing these new frames can seem quite complex, the Basso Collection remains simple in overall function and is constructed specifically to "accentuate the shape of the individual frame." Available for three of Warby Parker's existing <b>prescription frames</b>: Duckworth, Percey, and Winston, each frame will have one of four custom color combinations from a palette of oceanic hues. Easily dressed up or down, the Basso Collection is one that will pair well with all tastes and lifestyles.</div>

The premise of the Blessing Jar is that for every blessing that God gives you throughout the year, you write it down and place it in the jar. At any point during the year, should you feel down, discouraged, or hopeless -- open the jar and receive a spiritual push by reading all of the ways that God has blessed you up until that point. At the conclusion of the year, you can also go through and read all of the ways that God has blessed you throughout the year.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Mark 5:19 ~ ..."Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you."~</b></div>
<br />
I was completely head over heels in love with this idea and immediately went to <b><a href="http://www.hobbylobby.com/home.cfm" target="_blank">Hobby Lobby</a></b> to get supplies. I called up my sister for an impromptu girl's night of dinner, wine, and decorating our 2015 Blessing Jars!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7oqij-AxrR8/VOFzv7jIccI/AAAAAAAABq0/LNHql7o5yig/s1600/Blessing%2BJar2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Blessing Jar" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7oqij-AxrR8/VOFzv7jIccI/AAAAAAAABq0/LNHql7o5yig/s1600/Blessing%2BJar2.jpg" height="400" title="Blessing Jar" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As we got done laughing and totally acting like we were in grade school hot glue gunning our jars, we were totally ready to see what God was going to do. As 2015 kicked into full gear and I was putting in blessing after blessing into the jar -- I took note that while on days where there may not have been something relevant for me to put something in the jar, there were days where I was putting in 3 or 4 separate pieces of paper.<br />
<br />
After a month of putting my blessings into the jar, I realized that there was an even greater lesson to learn in all of this -- and frankly I was a bit embarrassed. When I first started this project and I was looking for jars, I went for the medium sized Mason Jar, truly thinking that this was going to be big enough to have all of my blessings for 2015 fill it to the brim.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Me and my sister's completed 2015 Blessing Jars</td></tr>

<br />
Little did I know, was that by Mid-February, my blessing jar was more than halfway full. The lesson to be learned is that often we internally humanize God -- we put him in a box. We don't often give Him credit and we surely can't grasp the magnitude of who He is. After seeing and having a tangible way of visualizing His presence in my life, I realize that I probably should have decorated a trash can, rather than a jar, because my God is capable of filling up so much more than a jar.<br />
<br />

This upcoming spring and summer will be all about prints -- and how well you are able to master mixing and matching them is entirely up to you. If you fare on the side of the conservative, then maybe your shoes will be the only prints donned in your wardrobe. However, if you're like many of the daring and <i>trendy</i> darlings, then not only will your shoes pop with prints, but your accessories and apparel will as well. I always tell my personal shopping clients that layering is key for the cooler weather seasons. While it may appear that this concept is simple, it really <em>could be</em> a cinch if done correctly. The art to great layering is still having a consistent, fluid look as each piece is removed off of each other.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QZ2CEuefQvE/VLE3pXIXwCI/AAAAAAAABos/ZFjOkvgwh_Y/s1600/Freedom%2BTee.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="FM Fashion Music Freedom Tee" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QZ2CEuefQvE/VLE3pXIXwCI/AAAAAAAABos/ZFjOkvgwh_Y/s1600/Freedom%2BTee.jpg" height="400" title="FM Fashion Music Freedom Tee" width="346" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
For this look, I took a basic black fashion FREEDOM tee from <strong><a href="http://fmfashionmusic.com/" target="_blank">FM Fashion Music</a></strong> <em>(pictured above)</em> and layered it with a shearling vest from <strong><a href="http://kissuetx.com/" target="_blank">Kissue</a></strong>. This ensemble by itself is perfect indoors. As I stepped outside, I completed this already layered look with a leather jacket. I chose one of my shorter leather jackets to let the flaps from my Kissue vests hang out -- creating an assymetrical, yet warm appearance. Add in a great pair of slouch boots and how could I forget -- a fabulous <strong><a href="http://allisonmitchell.com/" target="_blank">Allison Mitchell</a></strong> foldover clutch for a pop of color and now I'm good to go!<br />

I openly discussed acknowledging God's voice, following his calling, and going after my purpose regardless of what others said or without the necessity for their approval. (Read more here: <i><a href="http://beautyforeashes.blogspot.com/2014/07/dream-big-what-god-has-for-you-is-just.html" target="_blank">Dream Big: What God Has For You is Just That--For You</a></i>)<br />
<br />
Today I was on Facebook when I came across the story of <b>Jason Brown</b>, an <b>NFL</b> player who turned down a $37.5 million contract in order to follow God's calling on his life and start a farm. Not only did Brown admit that he had never farmed a day in his life, he also admitted to having to watch YouTube in order to learn more about the business and how he was going to make it work. All he knew, was that there was more purpose in growing crops on his farm to feed the less fortunate, than making money in the NFL.<br />

I am so incredibly inspired by this story and hope that it touches your heart too. Read this post <b><a href="http://www.examiner.com/article/why-nfl-player-jason-brown-turned-down-37-5-million-contract-to-become-farmer" target="_blank">here</a></b> on <b><a href="http://examiner.com/">Examiner.com</a></b> for more on Jason Brown and his farm called <b><a href="http://www.wisdomforlife.org/first-fruits-farm.html" target="_blank">First Fruits Farms</a></b>. Hopefully it will light a fire for you to go after your passion and calling. Life is not always about the money.<br />

Ditch the ordinary jeans and tee recipe and go for a more edgier and feminine approach by adding statement jewelry, heels and of course leather!<br />

I was asked by <b><a href="http://www.vogue.com/" target="_blank">Vogue</a></b> to come up with an NFL game day style for my home team which would be the <b><a href="http://www.dallascowboys.com/" target="_blank">Dallas Cowboys</a></b>! If you've been paying attention to social media over the last year, you may have seen the word <b>"Columbusing"</b> being thrown around. If you were anything like me, you may have been like "What in the world does that mean?" So of course, I looked it up on the web only to find the definition in one of the most reputable sources out there: <b>The Urban Dictionary</b>. *insert sarcasm here* The Urban Dictionary defines Columbusing as: "When white people claim they have invented/discovered something that has been around for years, decades and even centuries."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm all about humor and really trying not to make everything a black or white thing so naturally I tried to see what recently has been "Columbused." So here's a few examples.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><u>Miley Cyrus and the "Twerk"</u></b> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YzgXT2WFOuE/VEJqQVJHcqI/AAAAAAAABkw/TVRiUWhxiMY/s1600/Miley.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Miley Cyrus Twerk Columbusing" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YzgXT2WFOuE/VEJqQVJHcqI/AAAAAAAABkw/TVRiUWhxiMY/s1600/Miley.jpg" height="244" title="Miley Cyrus Twerk Columbusing" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Apparently after Miley went Twerk crazy all over the universe, gyrating from one stage to the next...folks attempted to credit her with the newest dance craze--only to realize that black people have been doing the "twerk" or some similar version to this dance for years! I'm not sure if this is something to necessarily brag about or get a trophy for, but I can even remember "doing the butt" as a kid and yeah, pretty sure Miley wasn't around during that point in time. <b>The Twerk = COLUMBUS'ED!</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><u>Bo Derek, The Kardashians and Cornrows</u></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tKIleaF5ySE/VEJqZ9AfQnI/AAAAAAAABk4/YSoaBcGt-Uk/s1600/Bo%2BDerek.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="Bo Derek Cornrows" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tKIleaF5ySE/VEJqZ9AfQnI/AAAAAAAABk4/YSoaBcGt-Uk/s1600/Bo%2BDerek.jpg" title="Bo Derek Cornrows" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<b>Bo Derek</b>, one of the more popular sex symbols of the late 70's and 80's, is famous for being pictured as a bombshell on the beach with her cornrows hairstyle.<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tYUngenApbc/VEJq2nv4LCI/AAAAAAAABlA/kP6cpF4m1JE/s1600/KendallJenner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Kendall Jenner Cornrows" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tYUngenApbc/VEJq2nv4LCI/AAAAAAAABlA/kP6cpF4m1JE/s1600/KendallJenner.jpg" height="320" title="Kendall Jenner Cornrows" width="198" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fast forward to current times and all of the <b>Kardashians</b> from Khloe to Kim to Kendall have all rocked the hairstyle. It wasn't until Khloe rocked cornrows earlier this year and her younger sister, Kendall followed suit--that sources like <b><a href="http://www.marieclaire.com/" target="_blank">Marie Claire</a></b> coined Kendall with "taking bold braids to an epic new level" or when <b><a href="http://www.hollywoodlife.com/" target="_blank">Hollywood Life</a></b> referred to Khloe's cornrows as a "dramatic new look." <b>Again...COLUMBUS'ED!</b> African-American women and women of African descent have been rocking this "epic hairstyle" for years...heck decades! There's nothing new or "bold" about this hairstyle and they were popular well before Bo Derek--it's just that she was "bold" enough during that time to wear them as a Caucasian woman.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><u>The Art of "Co-Washing"</u></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So after all of my valuable research on Columbus'ing over the past year, I regretfully ended up putting it to use. I was browsing my Instagram feed the other day when I came across a post by a very well known celebrity esthetician (who shall remain nameless). She was going on and on and on about how she started co-washing her hair. PAUSE. For those of you unfamiliar with co-washing, it's a term that simply means that instead of washing your hair with shampoo and then conditioner, you only use conditioner to wash your hair. You eliminate the shampoo part completely. Hence, 'co' (conditioner) washing. African-American women especially have to do this, as the chemicals and soaps in shampoos strips our hair of its natural oils. The effects of using shampoo are much harsher to African-American hair which is why co-washing has been used amongst African-American women or women of African descent well before the beginning of time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a8mGrylJiOE/VEJsmK3mw9I/AAAAAAAABlM/Y1vlLlg82Qc/s1600/cowashig.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a8mGrylJiOE/VEJsmK3mw9I/AAAAAAAABlM/Y1vlLlg82Qc/s1600/cowashig.jpg" height="320" width="214" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zQ4cEoElh10/VEJsmMkXFkI/AAAAAAAABlQ/NHBXy0MDBfc/s1600/cowashig1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zQ4cEoElh10/VEJsmMkXFkI/AAAAAAAABlQ/NHBXy0MDBfc/s1600/cowashig1.jpg" height="320" width="227" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KwswkBSaXE0/VEJtgTRFioI/AAAAAAAABlc/3lreuh-SGQs/s1600/cowash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Cantu Beauty Co-Wash" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KwswkBSaXE0/VEJtgTRFioI/AAAAAAAABlc/3lreuh-SGQs/s1600/cowash.jpg" title="Cantu Beauty Co-Wash" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anywho--so I read on to see her thoughts and I was really amused as she went on to make it like "co-washing" was just invented. That it was the BEST thing ever and here's the kicker...she gives props to <b>Lisa Rinna</b> and <b>Chaz Dean</b> of <b><a href="http://www.wen.com/" target="_blank">Wen Haircare</a></b> products for putting her on to this "new" phenomenon. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So I took a deep breath, and replied politely that African-American women with natural hair have been doing this since the beginning of time and that companies such as <b><a href="http://cantubeauty.com/" target="_blank">Cantu Beauty</a></b>, <b><a href="http://www.carolsdaughter.com/?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Regular%20-%20Branded%20-%20Brand&utm_term=+Carol%20+Daughter" target="_blank">Carol's Daughter</a></b>, etc. already have a wealth of products dedicated to "Co-Washing". Pretty much just politely informing her that this is not new, and Lisa Rinna and Chaz are not the ones who should receive the credit. <b>Co-Washing = COLUMBUS'ED!</b></div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After I posted, she replied back that she was aware of that, which I beg to differ, because if you were aware, you would have properly given credit. She also proceeded to tag one of her African-American friends who appeared to have a haircare line to see if she had a co-wash product in her line.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Let's face it. It could have been an honest mistake, but I just had to let her know that this was not a new phenomenon and please give credit where credit is due. At first I thought the whole Columbus'ing craze was funny, but yesterday was one of the first times where it really made me scratch my head and think. I guess I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for more "new discoveries" that aren't properly credited. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Have you noticed something that was Columbus'ed? Please share in the discussion!</div>

Our resident book and novel expert, <b>Ashleigh Ray</b>, received an advance copy of award-winning author, <b><a href="http://www.victoriagriffith.com/" target="_blank">Victoria Griffith</a></b>'s latest book, <i style="font-weight: bold;">Amazon Burning</i>, which comes out later this month. After reading the book from cover to cover, find out the scoop on whether Ashleigh thinks this next book from Griffith's collection is worth the read.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><u>Overall Assessment:</u> Amazon Burning is a great book for an afternoon read. 3.5 out of 5 stars for an enjoyable, fun and easy read with definite strong moments.</b></div>

unlock the truth behind the death of Milton Silva, a environmentalist who was
murdered in cold blood. </div>

<span style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">This book delivers in its intent to
grasp the reader and throw them into an adventure in the Amazon. The
interspersion of Spanish dialogue and the inclusion of different animal and
foliage species definitely add to the overall immersion of the reader into this
strange yet interesting world. The characters make the story interesting. Each
character has their own individual voice and personality. To the reader, their interactions and their conversations are believable. Also, the chemistry between
Emma and Jimmy seems very natura and not forced in anyway. They complement each
other, and the author did a good job in drawing out their relationship.</span><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">The characters bring the story to life by adding another dimension of reality
to the piece. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">However, the story is more than the characters; it is also the
mystery and detective journalism surrounding the corruption in the Amazon. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><b><i><span style="font-size: large;">After the first few chapters, you will find yourself already guessing and trying to
figure out “who dun it.” </span></i></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><b><i><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></i></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">There is a strong element of suspense in this piece
despite the clichés and the predictability of some of the events. The abrupt
cliffhangers at the end of most chapters will throw you off a bit, but only because
it felt as though the author was trying to force the suspense on the reader. It
takes a few chapters to move past the initial reluctance, but overall you will be glad you did. Moreover, there are a couple of convenient scenes in the story that seem a
bit too coincidental to be seen as a real situation, but not enough to
completely take you out of the moment.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
Victoria Griffith did a
good job with this novel. It is enjoyable but probably for only a one time read.
It’s good for a nice afternoon if you’re looking for something easy and entertaining,
something that’ll hold your attention for the moment and keep you guessing
until the very end. <b><u>This book rates a 3.5 out of 5.</u></b><o:p></o:p></div>

Well I didn't either until recently, but whoever thought of October 10th as the day that will honor only the greatest of wardrobe accessories is just pure GENIUS! I'm completely obsessed with handbags and will admit openly here that I have an addiction. From totes to crossbody bags to clutches, I have an overflowing closet full of handbags in different shapes, sizes and colors and for different occasions. In honor of National Handbag Day, I've decided to list out my top handbag picks and trends for 2014. Ready to swoon? Here you go!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mgmsydZPpsw/VDfa_JOKnqI/AAAAAAAABjM/TeDYSm6XcZ4/s1600/bucketbag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mgmsydZPpsw/VDfa_JOKnqI/AAAAAAAABjM/TeDYSm6XcZ4/s1600/bucketbag.jpg" height="320" width="222" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b>
<b>Top Trend for 2014: Bucket Bags</b><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Bucket bags are making a comeback and is notably one of the top handbag trends for 2014. My favorite is the <b><a href="http://www.mansurgavriel.com/" target="_blank">Mansur Gavriel</a></b> bucket bag which is in such high demand that you have to be on a list to pre-order the handbag! I want it and I want it now!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yd50L1b1eEM/VDfbN_s7HrI/AAAAAAAABjU/f3Lso1VHKWY/s1600/Veronika.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yd50L1b1eEM/VDfbN_s7HrI/AAAAAAAABjU/f3Lso1VHKWY/s1600/Veronika.jpg" height="320" width="282" /></a><br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>My Top Tote for 2014: <a href="http://freedomofanimals.com/" target="_blank">Freedom of Animals</a> Veronika Tote</b><br />
<br />
This tote is one that is both basic and functional but also so incredibly well made that it will stop people dead in their tracks when they see it. I compared this to the "poor man's <b>Hermes Birkin</b>" handbag in one of my earlier posts (read <b><a href="http://beautyforeashes.blogspot.com/2014/08/hermes-birkin-look-like-freedom-of.html" target="_blank">here</a></b>) and it truly is. I get looks and inquiries everytime I wear this handbag!<br />
<br />

<b><b><br /></b></b>
<b><b><br /></b></b>
<b>Top Casual Bag for 2014: <a href="http://www.hobobags.com/" target="_blank">Hobo</a> Crossbody Bag</b><br />
<br />
The crossbody bag is definitely one of the top casual handbags for 2014. From festivals to a casual walk in the park, this highly multi-functional bag is one that can be easily dressed up and down and one that needs to be in every gal's closet. My favorite brand for crossbody's this year would definitely be Hobo. They are very well made, using fine quality leathers and did I mention...oh so cute!<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Top Clutch: <a href="http://www.bottegaveneta.com/" target="_blank">Bottega Venetta</a></b><br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zq_6cYXln1A/VDfc8fIs9CI/AAAAAAAABjk/daOHoGjUxKs/s1600/bottega.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zq_6cYXln1A/VDfc8fIs9CI/AAAAAAAABjk/daOHoGjUxKs/s1600/bottega.jpg" height="137" width="320" /></a>Clutches are definitely a staple for the handbag enthusiast. Whether worn casually in a light fabric or embellished lavishly for a formal night out on the town, clutches are definitely one of my favorite "purses" to carry. So what clutch has caught my eye this year as a top pick? I'm head over heels for the Bottega Veneta clutch. It's simple, yet elegant and everywhere I shop, I notice brands trying to emulate this popular style.<br />

<b><b>Top Local Handbag for 2014: <a href="http://shopjacquem.com/" target="_blank">Jacque M</a> (Gimme Fringe!)</b></b><br />
<br />
<br />
Lastly, on a local level, handbag extraordinaire Jacque M is taking the DFW handbag world by storm. With her unique and innovative designs, this local designer has definitely caught my eye. For 2014, I fell in love with the <b><a href="http://www.accessoriesinthenude.com/multimedia.html" target="_blank">Accessories in the Nude Competition</a></b> winner's fringe detail on her one-of-a-kind foldover clutches. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.<br />

<b><span style="font-size: large;"><u>Likes</u>: </span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Super light texture, non-clogging, natural, easy to apply and in love with the year-round colors</li>
<li>The blush lends itself to a myriad of skin types </li>
<li>Great selection of tinted moisturizers with SPF in illuminizing as well as matte</li>
<li><u style="font-weight: bold;">Absolutely LOVED the lipsticks, tints and glosses...the BEST SELLERS of this brand! A definite MUST HAVE!</u> They are super light, non-sticky and last all day.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><u><span style="font-size: large;">Dislikes</span></u>:</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>There was not enough color for the woman of color. Specifically, there were no base colors that would work in most light settings for a woman of medium to darker skin or the woman who has spent too long in natural light or artificial light</li>
<li>Many of the blushes and base colors as well as the tints had a red undertone which is not good for many African-American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian-American, or Pacific Islander women who need more of a golden undertone--lest it makes us look gray and chalky</li>
<li>The only brow definer was in blond. <i>(We're secretly hoping that we overlooked the darker brow definers.) </i></li>
<li>May not be enough coverage for someone wishing to cover blemishes or skin imperfections</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The overall premise for this brand is that we will definitely be buying the lip products but will need to see vast improvement on the foundation products (tinted moisturizers, base colors, etc.). We're still on the hunt for the best products for women of color. Think you know the brand? Shoot us an email and we're more than happy to review!</div>

Even though I know that these things still exist, I frankly could care less. Why, you ask? Because I live in <b>Texas</b>! The seasons themselves are confused, therefore my wardrobe options and day-to-day attire is even more confusing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Apparently, the first day of <b>Fall</b> was on September 22nd, but the Texas weather Gods missed that memo. So in an effort to just embrace the season that I'm in and to rebel against Fall, I'm going to continue to wear my bright Spring and Summer colors. This is what I wore to my church women's conference, <b>Flourish Lite</b>...it looks like Miami in Dallas! I love it! What do you think? Many of you always write to me and tell me how inspired you are by my journey. I openly wrote a snippet of where God has brought me in my July 2014 post: <b><i><a href="http://beautyforeashes.blogspot.com/2014/07/dream-big-what-god-has-for-you-is-just.html" target="_blank">Dream Big--What God Has for You is Just That--For You</a></i></b>. While I would love to think that the accomplishment of my dreams was through my hard work, sleepless nights and determined perseverance, I know for a fact that this was not all my doing. I have openly communicated the desires of my heart to God, whether it was for my career, relationships or family by writing them down or saying them in prayer. While many have likened this to the "Oprah effect" and her popular "dream board" theory, this is a principle solely rooted in scripture.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>"Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart." ~Psalms 37:4</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Uo5iBCX3P20/VCAdsFmmySI/AAAAAAAABgk/QTBqPNoocpU/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="Flourish Women's Conference Covenant Church 2014" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Uo5iBCX3P20/VCAdsFmmySI/AAAAAAAABgk/QTBqPNoocpU/s1600/photo%2B3.JPG" height="240" title="Flourish Women's Conference Covenant Church 2014" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I discussed the quadrupling of my business in the above referenced blog post and also the expansion of my influence, it was ignited through a women's conference put on by my church annually entitled <b><a href="http://www.covenantflourish.org/" target="_blank">Flourish</a></b>. At Flourish, I get to dive deep into the desires of my heart, speak those things into being, interact with women who are actively going after their passions and gain the knowledge and tools in how to go about achieving my purpose--but according to God's plan.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="text-align: justify;">Without fail, EVERY YEAR that I attend this conference and apply the principles that are being taught, everything around me begins to change and grow. Financially, I have seen increase. Business-wise, I have seen increase. My road to entrepreneurship gets brighter and brighter. Relationships improve. I am not one to promote something that I don't believe in, but this is a conference that women (believer or non-believer) need to be at.</span><br />
<span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span>

<span style="text-align: justify;">We all have that itch...that something that gets out of bed everyday and that keeps us going. What is your dream? What is your passion? Do you have the tools you need to get there? Have you openly expressed the desires of your heart? Have you connected with women who have been there and done that? What are YOU doing to get yourself to where you need to be so that you are in line with your purpose?</span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you are struggling with these questions and need the extra added push to get the answers, then I am personally inviting you to <b><a href="http://www.covenantflourish.org/flourish-lite" target="_blank">Flourish Lite</a></b> at Covenant Church on <b>Saturday, September 27, 2014</b>. While this is not the large annual conference that is held every year, this is a small and FREE snippet of what many of us experience on a year to year basis. Saturday's conference will discuss health and fitness among many other issues that women often need guidance with.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In addition to September 27th, mark your calendars for <b>May 6-8, 2015</b> for the annual conference. It is truly life altering and you will thank God (and me) later. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While I was in <b>New York</b> for <b><a href="http://www.mbfashionweek.com/" target="_blank">Mercedes Benz Fashion Week</a></b>, I had the opportunity to venture to the other side of the <b>Manhattan Bridge</b> and attend the <b>Essence Street Style Party</b> in <b>Brooklyn</b>. Anytime I think of Brooklyn, I always think of that line from the <i style="font-weight: bold;">Sex and the City </i>movie where Miranda was contemplating the move from Manhattan to Brooklyn and says, "New York Magazine says that Brooklyn is the new Manhattan." Then Carrie looks at Miranda with the side eye and remarks, "Whoever wrote that LIVES in Brooklyn!"</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Looking up at the Manhattan Bridge</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's so funny to me. This is what pops into my head everytime I think of Brooklyn--as if it were not the same or better as Manhattan. As my cab crossed over the Manhattan Bridge and circled into Brooklyn I was curious to see exactly what this quote from the movie meant...and honestly, I would have to agree with Miranda. I thoroughly enjoyed Brooklyn 10 times more than I did being in the city. It was family friendly, I could breathe and my whole aura was more calm. Brooklyn had character. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Essence Street Style Party was thrown in conjunction with all of the events being held for Fashion Week. It was underneath the bridge and near <b>Dumbo Park</b>. While there wasn't as many vendors as I was hoping for, it was definitely a break from all of the <b>Lincoln Center</b> Fashion Week madness and a chance for me to relax and connect with Essence readers and down to Earth folks. I put a lot of thought into my outfit and wanted to really showcase what Dallas was all about (just in case I was asked). So I put on this fabulous skirt from Dallas brand <b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/Phantasie99" target="_blank">Phantasie</a></b>, paired it with an olive green top, leather-esque belt and peep-toe booties. And let's not forget, my <b>Tom Ford</b> shades to finish the look!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I felt good and was surprised when I was stopped on the street to take photos...I know for a fact it was my Phantasie skirt that was getting all of the attention. There are drawstrings on the side of the maxi skirt that you pull to create the bubble skirt effect. If you want a straight maxi skirt then you release the drawstrings...so a 2-in-1 skirt! I loved it and so did the people of Brooklyn! Anyways, enjoy these photos! It's just another day in the life of the traveling, Dallas fashion writer.</div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Have you ever wondered what was meant by the term "street style"? I must admit, I really have come to appreciate this category of fashion and style but didn't truly give it the attention it deserves until I arrived in <b>New York City</b> for <b>Mercedes Benz Fashion Week</b>. Street style is derived from elements of street fashion and much different from day to day conservative and contemporary fashions. This type of self-interpretive style most definitely differs from state to state. From the steps of the <b>Lincoln Center</b> to below the bridge in Brooklyn, I've captured some of my favorite street style looks during my stint at <b>Fashion Week</b>--and I'm delivering them right to you. Enjoy and be inspired!</span><br />
